Evidence-Based Pet Health & Care
Mission, Clinical Philosophy & Standards
PetHub (petcalculators.org) is an open educational initiative dedicated to providing transparent, scientifically validated calculators for dogs and cats. We bridge the gap between complex veterinary research papers and everyday pet parenting decisions.
Why PetHub Exists: Defeating the "7-Year Myth"
For generations, dog owners were taught that every calendar year equals seven dog years. Cat owners struggled to interpret confusing feeding charts on commercial bags that led to unprecedented pet obesity rates. Meanwhile, online pet tools were either bloated with intrusive pop-up ads or offered arbitrary numbers with zero scientific justification.
PetHub was built upon a different philosophy:
- The Lifetime Decision Chain: Connecting health stages sequentially—from pediatric growth rate tracking and pregnancy milestones to senior cognitive screenings and calorie adjustments.
- Literature Transparency: Citing primary DOI sources (such as Ostrander & Horvath 2022, Montoya 2023, and WSAVA nutrition tables) right on the tool card.
- Zero Privacy Intrusion: Calculating everything client-side in the browser, without mandatory account logins or data harvesting.
Our Methodology & Editorial Standards
Our platform operates on an "AI-assisted, human-verified" standard. Machine intelligence assists our editorial team in structuring large multi-breed datasets, while every mathematical equation and physiological multiplier is audited and verified against authoritative veterinary guidelines before deployment.
